Just as we thought that winter was coming to an end at Golden Gate National Park, and that the snow that we had earlier this year was all we could expect for the season, yesterday's rain showers turned much colder and whiter! More snow is expected over the next few days, making this week / weekend the perfect time to come and visit our winter wonderland.
The sandstone cliffs and rocky outcrops of the Park create the perfect backdrop to the snow for photographers, and the large mammals are seen more and more frequently near the game loops as they come lower into the valley in search of food.
At the time of writing,(midday 2 August) the rest camps Glen Reenen, Highlands Mountain Retreat and the Brand Wag had some vacancies for the day or two (which due to its high location affords stunning views across the mid level plains) although these are expected to be book up quickly. For reservations, and a chance to enjoy the cosy camps, warming fires and spectacular views, contact reservations or call 058 255 0075.
We are currently running the Kids in the Parks Programme: our children got a special treat when they woke up this morning to a White Park! The snow is expected to continue transforming the park.
